The erratic adventures of shay & jax
How did y'all spend Halloween?
If the answer is not getting photobombed by a vampire at a burlesque show, then you lose. A few days back, I was seriously considering turning Shay into a parody of the worst kind of bodybuilding.com/misc bell-end. TLFKAC helped me see the light on that one though. Instead, I'd like the character to grow up a little. Him being the class clown is wearing a little thin (for me at least - and when it comes to stuff like this, I'm the only one that counts! :P) As part of that process, I'm thinking about changing Shay's face-claim to someone a little less baby-faced. I'm struggling to think of who though. I have a performance specification in mind, but no-one leaps to mind who fills it:
If any of you could suggest anyone, I would appreciate it.

I haven't done one of these in a while. So what to report? I'm finally cobbling together some ideas for Vera's horror album, which is probably a good thing because her current tour is a kind of limbo - she badly needs something to do. Shay is dealing with Irish leaving the band and/or killing herself. I'm currently campaigning for her to 'see the light' and become the sort of evangelical preacher who's all Hellfire and brimstone in public, and hookers and ching in private. I think the consensus is that TGF needs a third member. At the moment all I can say is that something that may possibly be an iron just might be at least fairly close to something which could conceivably at least become a fire. Yeah, it's that vague. :P Anything else? Well, I did a few banner designs for a friend's clubs. I dunno which one, if any, will get used, but it was nice to do a bit of design work for the first time in forever. England won a cricket game, which hasn't happened since before it started raining here in the UK. I vaguely toyed with the idea of changing V's faceclaim (yes, again...) and thought I'd found the perfect candidate, but didn't make a note of her name, and promptly forgot. :P Ayria Lovett was considered, but probably not. Seems she makes smut with Joni's former faceclaim Kato, which makes her a) too young-looking and b) too smutty. One of the less smutty pics of Ms Lovett I should probably just not worry about it. There's nothing really wrong with Teya Salat, it's just that I occasionally think she doesn't quite fit the bill, for reasons I can't quite put my finger on. Then again, maybe I should make a big fuss about it, just to wind up the person (who shall remain nameless *coughtheladybehindtheFoulquierscough*) who asked if I was going to take another four blogs to decide! :D Or maybe Verya? Anyway, I put together 10 (ten) avatars for Vera using the lovely Ms Selat. These, combined with the one I did for DotD, and the one she's rocking at the moment, give me a good stock, and some flexibility for different situations. For instance, the last one could come in handy when I have Vera seduce Joni's latest unfortunate stalkee - not because V is actually interested (although Shemar Moore is a dreamboat... *wistful sigh*); no, just to fuck with Ricicles really. Still lub ya, my little pack of rice cakes! :D Anyway, do ya wanna see 'em? Huh? You do? Well then, here they are: I hope Rice approves of my cropping :P
I've even managed to sneak a skunk-do on in there :P. Now I have to update V's character page, which I will do... soon? Well, a little bit anyway. 24 bars in Shay's latest blog, that I will work up into a full song at some point. Plus, I have an idea for a concept album or sorts for V. I'm thinking she'll go cowpunk, not because it's the current highest rated subgenre, but because it seems the perfect home for someone that's been both a Punk and a Country artist. As well as the will-probably-never-see-the-light-of-day cricket album, I'm thinking of a an album tentatively entitled Dark Country, and featuring tales of the supernatural with a Country twist. Basically a whole album of stuff like Hungry. Of course, this does raise the question of whether Teya Salat has enough of a Country vibe. Or maybe, y'know, I could just be less of an anally-retentive nerd about these things. Does she look like a cowpoke to you? I'm thinking I may enter Hungry into the Festival lyric competition. I would encourage anyone that reads this shit to nominate a song or songs (not necessarily yours or mine) because I know from running the last one how shite it is when no-one responds. :P
Dave Seals (nee Tennant) is the new British English translator. The guy behind him seems like a good egg, and super-keen, so it's all good. And, in this case, 'all good' means down tools and pick up the free VIP until they sack me! (If any game officials are reading this, I'm totally kidding {totally not kidding :P}) When looking through Shay and V's songs for possible competition entries, I realised that the game really does need Greatest Hits-type albums. If nothing else, I could bang out an album of songs V has written for or about Fay - 12 and counting! I added sexual orientation to the character pages, and corrected some typos and whatnot. All terribly exciting, I'm sure. V has two more weeks as part of a duet before it's all change. This is when I'll make the jump to the Teya face-claim. I have to bottom out what I'm doing with her professionally too. I had assumed it would be a solo cowpunk career, but I did receive an interesting, if possibly slightly flippant offer to join a band that warrants some thought. On the one hand, I wouldn't mind doing some stupid shit with her, and there's no need to drag anyone else's career into the gutter. On the other hand, a lazy ride with a band that knows what they're doing could be fun. I've just finished reading the Supernatural Roleplay thread in Dr Snuggles. Vera to be revealed as a werebadger? I mean, c'mon, where did you think the white stripe came from? Lastly, I need to find a second translator for the British English language. You might know it as UK English, but you might be wrong. :P Anyway, if you know someone who might be interested, please point them towards message 2168820.1. Ta muchly! What's that you say, gentle reader? I haven't put up any pictures of heavily tattooed women for you to admire/fap to (delete depending on whether you are Ricicles or not)? Shit, ladydog, you can't find your own? Fine, fine - if you insist. Honestly, I'm too good to you lot... Ka-POW!! Honestly now, how fucking awesome is that tat? Oo, I know! I'll do a recommend me-type thingy, but for comics. Do you read comics (or 'graphic novels', if you're too scared to admit that you're a fanboy/girl/thing)? If so, what would you recommend?
I can do the whole superhero thing, but I tend to get bored about the lack of character progression. That's not a slur on the writers, or the genre; I totally understand that the big guns have to be protected, because they make Marvel and DC a metric fuck-tonne of money. I just prefer superhero stories that have a definitive arc (like Watchmen, or The Boys), and/or aren't afraid to fuck over major characters because the main drive is the story, and not the franchise (like Savage Dragon). I also like lots of supernatural, sci-fi and pulp stuff. I had a bit of a thunk about what I have coming up, socially, in the next few months and, shit the bed, it's a fair old amount. :P In October and November I'm going to:
Also, I'm going to go with Teya Salat for V's new face claim. I think I'll change her bewbs over at the end of the last ever TFTB tour. Bewbs! (Kinda)
Right, that's it: I'm giving up on this weebly lark. Why? Well, because I've just read another new (kinda) weebly: Totally Birmingham. After seeing the combination of pretty-as-a-picture design, and insane levels of detail (Brittany has a favourite tree! Holy shit, I don't even have a favourite tree!) I've decided to retire from roleplaying* altogether, and quietly tend to my vegetable plot. :P
Well, either that, or steal some of her ideas. I'll be adding notes about my characters' accents dreckly. YOINK! I think I'm going to go with Teya as Vera's faceclaim. Bobzilla didn't care for the the sample picture I put up in the last blog, but after she did some further 'research' (fnarr) she seems to have come around. You don't know, gentle reader, how much self-restraint it took not to write come around as 'come around' (fnarr). But, of course, I would never never smear her good name with smutty innuendo. Truly, I am a saint... Anyway, Mary-Leigh Maxwell is super-lovely, but her photos are, as someone else pointed out, just a bit too vampy for Vera. *No cracks about "I didn't notice that you'd ever started", thank-you! I realised that, while I asked you for your favourite face claims, I didn't list my own! Bad Bread! Bad! So ok, here are a few of mine, in no particular order. These aren't the only ones I like, they're just the ones the really stick in my mind:
Or is it faceclaims? Face-claims, maybe? I dunno; regardless: let's get dorky!! So, with only a few exceptions, we all tend to have someone else represent our little Popo-puppets. Whether that be an uber famous face, that leads to our character having a few dozen doppelgängers throughout the game, someone more niche, or even internet 'celebrities' and flat-out no marks. Some of us even use cartoon avatars... *watches Ricicles scurrying to check* What I'm wondering is why my loyal (yeah, right...) chose the ones they chose. Did you have a personality in mind and chose the face claim to fit, or vice versa? Or did you just think "yeah, I'd give her one" like some people clearly have...? *cough-Ricicles-cough* Ok, I'm gonna stop trolling Rice now. Hopefully she realises that I only cuss her cos I love her. :P Anyhoo, here are my thoughts on my own face claims. I'm sure you're all deeply riveted, and cannot wait to hear what nerdy navel-gazing I am about to whitter on about. In that case, read on, my friends. Read on... Vera: V has had a bit of a smorgasbord of avatars over the years. I started out trying to keep her stylistically linked to the (then fairly new) Popmundo graphics. I 'shopped together various bits from the avatar maker, and then added my own tattoos, and the white streak in her hair (the now infamous skunk 'do!) On reflection, I wish I'd been a bit less anal about trying to display all of the tattoos she'd picked up in game when I made the jump to human avatars. This would've saved me a lot of effort having to photoshop the tats on, and have them look vaguely convincing. The neck tattoo is a particular shit! When choosing the base for a new avatar, I do try and pick women that are vaguely (and I do mean very vaguely) similar in appearance, and try to avoid huge changes in face shape etc (the notable exception to that rule being Disco Biscuit Girl, and she was mostly done to try and annoy Fay :P). I also try and avoid models that are too pretty; I tend to think of V as striking, or handsome, rather than beautiful. Lastly, from a purely technical standpoint, I'm finding that it's often easier to pick a blonde and darken most of her hair, rather than a brunette and lighten a little bit. Shay-Shay: I went for Jamey Jasta, frontman of Hatebreed, for a few reasons: I like their music, I love his voice, and again, I didn't want him to be too perfect. The Popoworld is full of chiselled, hairless swimwear model types; I wanted Shay to be a little flawed, scruffy, and rough around the edges. The problem comes when I want to put him in a suit or something. More editing work! Mr Jasta at work Ellis: I did actually ask you buggers for suggestions on who to use for Ellis in Shay's blog. I can count the number of replies I got on no hands. Well eff you all! Eff you all in your ear canals!! Ahem. Anyway, shortly thereafter, Civet's Hell Hath No Fury popped up on my mp3 shuffle and I thought "that'll do nicely..." (© and ™ Han Solo). Attractive women, tattoos, loud guitars - what's not to like? So, gentle readers, what are you favourite face claims in the game? |
WTF?!This site contains out-of-character information for characters and events in the MMO Popmundo, as well as general navel-gazing and apologies for never updating. "If you are offended by words like: Shit! Bitch! Fuck! Dick! Ass! Whore! Cum!" Ice-T
